Cellulite

What is it?

Cellulite is the term used to describe skin that has a dimpled or orange-peel effect. It forms as the result of both fat storage in the adipocytes (fat cells) and water retention in the body. As the body ages, it produces less elastin and collagen – leading to less firm, less elastic skin and more visible cellulite.

The connective tissue (septa) becomes stiffer and the growing adipocytes push beyond the skin’s surface, thus creating the dimpled effect. At the same time, the circulation is impeded and toxins accumulate, exacerbating the problem.

Most women develop cellulite as they age (even the most active and athletic). The adipocytes and septa in women form in a vertical pattern, which contributes to the greater likelihood for women to develop cellulite (when compared to men, whose tissue form in a criss-cross pattern).

Levels

Level 0

No visible cellulite.

Level 1

The dimpling of the skin can only be seen when the skin is pinched.

Level 2

It can be seen when standing up but not when lying down.

Level 3

Noticeable even when lying down.

Types

 Aqueous Cellulite

This type of cellulite is caused by water retention in the body. This is often caused by poor cardiovascular and lymphatic circulation. Endermologie® can be used to improve the circulation, thereby allowing the body to drain the retained toxins and reactivate circulatory exchanges.

Adipose Cellulite

This type of cellulite is often associated with excess body fat. Endermologie® can stimulate the cells to naturally release fat.

Fibrous Cellulite

This type of cellulite requires the most time (and likely multiple courses) to treat. Fibrous cellulite has been present for a long time, is compact, and is often painful. Before the cellulite itself can be reduced, the tissue must first be softened so that it become responsive to treatment.
